Canyon Ski Area

Canyon Ski Area is easily accessible to residents of Red Deer as it is located only 10 minutes east of the city. Canyon has a total of 13 trails with 1 triple chair, 1 double chair, 2 T-bars and a handle tow. It boasts 164 meters of vertical and has terrain for all ages and abilities. Canyon Ski Area caters mostly to families and they pride themselves on being a family friendly resort. It is also a great option for central Albertans that do not want to make the long journey out to the Rocky Mountains.

On Saturday, January 30, Canyon Ski Area held an event called “Snowfest”. It was a great event and hundreds of people came out for it. There were demo’s from local ski shops, a MILK2GO tent, a dummy downhill, the Kokanee glacier girls and lots of fun and games for the kids. To see pictures of the event, visit us on Facebook.

What you may not know about Canyon Ski Area

Canyon has a terrain park! The terrain park here has a vast variety of jumps and rails for those who love riding in the park. Maintenance crews work hard to update the park frequently so be sure to get back and check it out if you haven’t been to Canyon lately.

Canyon Ski Area is Alberta’s largest non-mountain area! Essentially, Canyon has a ton of terrain and all the same amenities, facilities and gear that you would find at a mountain resort. They have 164 meters of vertical, a large rental shop, a concession, a ski school and numerous trails to keep you moving all day long.

2. Friendly staff

The staff at Canyon are all very friendly and will go out of their way to help you out. The ski school instructors in particular were having a great time teaching their lessons and were really enjoying the atmosphere of “Snowfest”. Interested in taking some lessons at Canyon? Click here!

It’s pretty hard to beat having a ski area only 10 minutes away from your home. While Canyon caters mostly to residents of Red Deer, it also brings in a lot of skiers and boarders from the smaller surrounding towns of central Alberta. Congratulations to Ashley Neilson who was our Go Big! Contest winner and took home a pair of lift tickets for Canyon Ski Area. Also a big thank you to Motel 6, Red Deer for providing my accommodations during my visit to Canyon Ski Area.
